A UK cinema listing appears to have inadvertently disclosed a significant character set to appear in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
The Everyman Cinema website briefly displayed a plot summary for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. This synopsis included Bowser Jr, a character previously confirmed for the film, but also named another prominent character whose involvement had not yet been officially announced.
The leaked synopsis stated: “After defeating Bowser and saving Brooklyn, Mario faces Wario and Bowser Jr’s evil alliance. Now, alongside his friends and Yoshi, he must stop their plans for world domination.” This detail was first noticed by IGN.
The cinema’s website has since been updated, and the original synopsis has been replaced. The current description now reads: “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is an animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros, and follows The Super Mario Bros Movie, which was released in 2023 and earned more than $1.3 billion worldwide. Both the 2023 film and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are produced by Chris Meledandri of Illumination and Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo.”
Three significant new characters have already received official confirmation for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie: Bowser Jr, Rosalina, and Yoshi.
Benny Safdie, known as a filmmaker and actor for works like The Smashing Machine and Uncut Gems, will voice Bowser Jr. Rosalina’s role will be portrayed by Brie Larson, recognized for her portrayal of Captain Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and her Academy Award-winning role in Room.
A recent trailer for the film confirmed the inclusion of several enemies from Super Mario Bros 2, such as Birdo. It also showed the return of Baby Mario and Baby Luigi, who had brief appearances in flashback sequences during the first movie.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is scheduled for theatrical release on April 1. Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are returning as directors for the sequel, with Matthew Fogel as screenwriter and Brian Tyler as composer.
